At this stage I think it is important to note down the key words and phrases that are going through my mind in relation to the site and my initial direction for the project...
- urban voids - loss of identity, loss of ideal densities
- vague, open, disused, derelict spaces - leading areas of the city to the end of their life cycle
- negative images feed the need to 'fill the void'
- economic, social and physical changes to a city
- cities: overcrowding, too many residential projects, former industrial areas are neglected, homelessness, poverty, prejudices, deprevation
- loss of historical and cultural value
What are the social and cultural reasons for cities falling into decline? How does architecture affect this? Can architecture even affect this?
